Well, I know it's been awhile but I'm back. And I'm back in a classroom! It's been a crazy past month for me. Fast and furious - always something happening. One of our first grade teachers got a job closer to her house so she wouldn't have to make the long trek to our school each day. Totally get that. Our area is very spread out, and we've got teachers who live in other parishes working in our parish and vice versa. If you've ever heard about the Baton Rouge Traffic problems, they are real and here always. I have my own opinions about why but that can be another post!!!

I have been working hard on making sure the first graders aren't missing a beat. There are only 52 days of school left, so one more grading period. And only four more units. Our school is departmentalized. I have taken over for the Science/Social Studies teacher. I teach the same lesson, three times a day which is not much different than what I was doing in middle school!!

I'm bringing back Sneak Peek Sunday! I've been making materials for my classes and figured I'd share the freebies with you.

Happy Sunday my peeps! This is going to be a very easy week for me, as a teacher. My students will be finalizing and editing their music videos. It's all them. I just get to watch.

However, I gots TONS of meetings!!
(except that PBIS one, that's a mistake, oops!!)
Well spring break has come to an end. I did however have a BLAST doing pretty much nothing except stuff you can read about HERE and our DIY Disney Day HERE.

But let's talk school now. Back to the real world.

I don't know about you, but I am in need of a little break. And so are the kids. Spring Fever is running rampant in our hallways and we are so antsy. Good thing it's a four day week before Spring Break!

So Friday we went to Kenner for the Bayou Regional Robotics Competition. For a complete rundown, check out my blog post HERE, but here's a snapshot of my kiddos.

This week is pretty straightforward. We are filming our music videos. The kids have done a fabulous job on writing their shot plans and they've got some good ideas.

The kindergarteners put on a parade every spring, and this year the theme is space! It's supposed to be on Thursday, but so is a TON of rain. We shall see.

I'm also helping the fifth grade film some environmental news reports this week. We are hoping to air them during some of the morning announcements. We won't have time to air them all, but they will be uploaded to our YouTube channel.

I got an interesting email today! My robotics kids are invited to the Bayou Regional Robotics competition in Kenner this coming Friday! We will get to showcase our robot and watch the high school kids compete in the Power Up Challenge. It's going to be so exciting and I can't wait!

Carly Summer will be there with her robotics team - the first all girls team in the state!!- so I'll be staying all weekend to see how things progress. Stay tuned for updates!

This past week I made this
We have been working hard on our morning broadcast show. The kids get to school, check in with their homeroom, and head to the lab.

So proud of these kids. Check out our YouTube Channel to see our morning news show!

Last week we had a field trip to the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. It was all about Engineering and Dreaming Big! We watched a very inspirational movie in the planetarium and then got to build our own robots and race them using Cubelets. Here are some pics.

It was a lot of fun! But then we headed back to reality and back to school.

This week is all about finalizing our PBS News Report Rough Cuts.

We've got a teacher work day on Friday where we will all be trained in test security!! Yay!!

In other News, I finally finished my Compare and Contrast Activities packet!!
Here are some pics of the activities.
Check it out HERE!
Happy March. In like a Lion for real this time.

And just like that, February is gone and March is here. Super busy month as per usual.

My observation went great! The kids had a fantastic time framing basic shots and creating slideshows.
Well another busy week is coming up! I've got my observation on Tuesday. I'll be teaching a lesson on Basic Shots and Angles. The good news is I'll get to practice the lesson on Monday with 7A, then get observed with 7B!! Work out all the kinks.

Happy Mardi Gras Break!!!

This was so me Friday.
Happy February! This short month is pretty packed full of fun stuff.

February Calendar
Grab my February Calendar in my TpT Store HERE. I also have a white background version.
So I had surgery Friday. Not as fun as it sounds I promise you. They put a metal plate in my arm. With 6 screws. After the nerve blocker wore off, it HURT. LIKE A LOT. But no worries. I'm sorta all better now. Well at least on the road to all better.

How am I typing you ask? By using a speech to text website! I think I may use this forever.

I'm not exactly heading back to school until Wednesday. So I did a screencast to get them started.

I use Screencastify and the premium version is so worth it! I'll be blogging about how easy it is soon!

But the kiddos will have some fun starting their advertising unit: As Seen on TV! In this unit, they will design a product, 3D Print it, and then make a commercial selling it.
HERE is my CRLG.
This week we get to start working on our 3D designs. It's so fun!! We will be using Tinkercad-it's online and free. Super simple to use and makes for great 3D designs for a beginning class.  Can't wait to see what they have planned.

So for the beginning of the unit activities, I've included a Nearpod and a Quizlet on Advertising Terms. I have the terms also ready to hang up in the classroom around my CRLG poster I'll be making.

The kids will also be completing a commercial analysis. You can find this whole kit, including links to commercials on YouTube, for free by clicking HERE. The Google Doc version of the Commercial Analysis is HERE.

We'll also start with the 3 P's.

The 3 P’s – product design, planning, and promoting. We will get with our groups and work on the 3 P’s, We will begin our strategic marketing plan.

Product - I want you to design a product that would help other students like yourself. Brainstorm with your group. Talk about things that would be helpful either for school or outside of school. Think practically: small things that can be carried around. We will be 3D printing these things so they can"t be huge. Draw some sketches. Think color, too.

Planning - Who will do what? It is very important to think about strategic division of labor. Who is designing? Who is the talent? Who is set designer? Who is director? Who is script writer? Are you going to have any testimonials?

Promoting - Who is your target audience (demographic)? Why is this helpful? Why would people jump on your bandwagon? What is your media channel? What makes your product better than other things out there? How will you "sell" it? What's your tagline? Watch some of the previously attached commercials for ideas. Remember to think about colors, the history, the acting

Grab a copy of my plans HERE.

OMG it has been the worst week in the world. It started off fine, just like any other Louisiana January Day - Sunday highs in the upper seventies, bright clear skies; Monday was slightly cooler and windier, clouds and rain rolled in Tuesday. Then all hell broke loose.

First we had snow. Friggin snow. In Louisiana!!!!!
I absolutely LOVE January!! Today is my birthday!!! I'm 36 :)
I'm having a sale on some items. You can grab them for $3.60!
Happy New Year!!

So we've made it to 2018. And it's been a fabulous, carb filled holiday break.

I've made some resolutions:
I think I can do all of those things. Starting with the bacon. Lots of eggs and bacon in my future.
I may have eaten the bacon while cooking the eggs.....oops.....

Disney is on the calendar for Carly's 18th birthday in October. I'm working on Shelly Ree's TpT Focused Success course!! I'm going to attempt to include more stuff in my blog posts and post more often (though that one may take a while!). And the pants thing - I'm going to try to not be as tired and lazy as I have been. We shall see.....

We are launching our SRL this week, and beginning to learn all about professional Journalism. Remember when we were chosen for PBS and our producer visited??

We had a full house!!

Download plans HERE.
Oh my goodness guys it's finally here!!! This is our week to go to State! The robotics team has been working so hard and I can't wait to see how we do.

Saturday we will trek down to Nola for the FIRST LEGO League State Championship.
