Hey guys!!

I'm so excited to share this tool with you. I posted on IG earlier this week and was overwhelmed by the response!

So I've been working on this online "app" for my teachers at my school. I've been making virtual tutorials via video as well as creating Google Docs and Sheets containing anything they might need at their fingertips during back to school mania 2020-2021.

You can see an example of this activity at this LINK

So here is a quick tutorial on how I made this!

First, I start in PowerPoint and create the hexagonal buttons with cute fonts. Then I save each of those as a picture in a file folder on my computer (you can see how I do this in my video below).

Then I add each picture I created to my Google Slide Deck I've made.

Once you've got your slide designed, you have to start linking your tutorials, videos, and documents. First, select the picture you want to link.

Then, click the link button on the menu (or press CTRL+K).
Paste the link to the document, website, or video.

And click apply. That's it!

Lastly, all you'll want to do is make sure anything that you don't link to an outside resource, like the title, is linked back to the slide that it's on. If its on Slide 1, link it to slide 1.

Watch this video for a more thorough walk-through of this tutorial!

Grab your FREE template HERE. Also, I've linked a ZIPPED copy of my PowerPoint template I made for this online app. Grab it HERE. I've included what font names I used, so you may have to purchase and download them if you want yours to look like mine!

Thanks and Happy Teaching!

Good morning! Just a quick share today! How are you doing with COVID-19? Is your school doing remote learning? Has your school year been canceled? I am so tired of quarantine, but I know it's for the best!

I had another Sunday Storytime with my kiddos, except it was on a Wednesday! My Internet was working VERY poorly on Sunday so I had to reschedule. It was so much fun seeing the kiddos faces again! I really do miss them.

So I read the book, Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst.

SUCH AN ADORABLE BOOK! It's hilarious, and a great way to introduce our next #DistanceLearning unit in Social Studies which is all about Basic Economics.

I've got ten lessons that I'll be "teaching" remotely, with various online activities. And by teaching I mean posting on Google Classroom everyday!

We aren't allowed to give required assignments or required activities that the students HAVE to do. We can only give out optional resources and activities. I know that the majority of my students can't or won't do the work, but it's still helpful to make sure I put enough information and activities out there for the students who will do or want to do work during this time.

So I created this little money counting activity!

Students will look at the item that Alexander spent his money on, then move the correct amount of coins to the box.

Want a Google Slides copy?

Have a great day!
Hello everyone!! How are y'all doing in the era of COVID-19? If you are like me, you are trying to think of ways to keep sane whilst worrying about your friends, family, and kiddos from school.

Well, tonight I did our first Sunday Storytime!

Good morning!! I'm sure many of you are going through exactly what I am: my head is spinning from the fast and furious cancellations that have been going on this week. Our governor called off all public schools in every parish for a month. My school has released this document to help keep our parents up to date and our students supplied with some school resources.

I have made all of my digital resources free in my store and I'm working on uploading more. I want to make sure that teachers and parents have resources readily available.

I'm also sharing this post that I wrote for The Primary Punchbowl in June of 2016. Using Google Drawings in the classroom. Perhaps you can find some ways to create activities that help promote what you are teaching.

Anything I can do to help out just let me know!!

***original post****

I'm here to show you some ways to use Google Drawings in the classroom, as well as a quick crash course!

Here are some examples of how I use this versatile Google App!

So let's get started!

First, go to drawings.google.com.

Here's what you see!
 Learn the toolbar real quick.

After you insert a line, a new toolbar shows up.
Make your choices and then go to insert a text box.

After you insert a textbox, a new toolbar shows up. The Line toolbar is also there in case you want to add a line around your text box.

Insert the text you want and drag it to the places you want. I am making a short a sort, so I chose 4 word family endings and moved them to the four boxes I made. Then click on Tools and Research. The Research Tool opens on the right of the screen. Click in the search bar and a drop down menu appears.

Choose Images and type what you would like to find. I am looking for short a words with the endings I chose. Some pictures I want are cat, hat, ram, crab, mad, etc. I also want to make sure I can use the pictures safely so click on the little arrow under the search bar.

When you have the pictures you want, you can press the little x on the research tool to hide it. Here is my Short A Sort. But I’m not finished yet! I have to move the pictures off the canvas to the side so the kids will be able to sort them properly.
I drag the pictures off the canvas to the side. Now it’s almost ready for the students. I like to add another text box with directions off to the other side so they know what to do.

I also add a text box in the middle so they have a place to type their name.
So simple: Insert text box, choose white as the fill background color. Type “Type Name Here” or what you wish. Choose the font and size and alignment, if you wish.
You can add how you want the students to turn in their work, or email it to you.

Now it’s time for you to share it with your students. This is very important. Click on SHARE. The Share menu pops up. Click on Get shareable link.

Click the little arrow next to Anyone with the link can view. Here you can choose how to share the file. Now, you don’t want each student working on the same file because they would all edit the same one. You want each kid to have his or her own file to work on.

So I leave it on “Anyone with the link can view” and click copy link. Pass the link to your students (however you do that). The students then open the link, click on File and choose Make a Copy. Each student will have his own copy.

So there you go! That's how you work Google Drawings. It's such a versatile tool and there is a plethora of possibilities! Have fun exploring and please send me pictures of your fabulous work!

Happy Teaching!

Well, I know it's been awhile but I'm back. And I'm back in a classroom! It's been a crazy past month for me. Fast and furious - always something happening. One of our first grade teachers got a job closer to her house so she wouldn't have to make the long trek to our school each day. Totally get that. Our area is very spread out, and we've got teachers who live in other parishes working in our parish and vice versa. If you've ever heard about the Baton Rouge Traffic problems, they are real and here always. I have my own opinions about why but that can be another post!!!

I have been working hard on making sure the first graders aren't missing a beat. There are only 52 days of school left, so one more grading period. And only four more units. Our school is departmentalized. I have taken over for the Science/Social Studies teacher. I teach the same lesson, three times a day which is not much different than what I was doing in middle school!!

I'm bringing back Sneak Peek Sunday! I've been making materials for my classes and figured I'd share the freebies with you.

Hi guys! I know it's been forever and a day since I've posted but I'm going to try to be better at that. Posting at least once a month is my goal with freebies at each one!!

Today I'm talking about Sub Tickets.

Wow this year has come upon us so quickly!! It seems like just yesterday I was waving goodbye to the kiddos and telling them to have a happy summer. And here we are now-year 13. Without further ado, I give you my Pina Colada Pineapple Classroom!
